SITE Selection Magazine ranks Danville, KY by BradSimmons
The Danville, Ky., Micropolitan Statistical Area of Boyle and Lincoln counties ranked as the 14th top-performing small town community in the nation for new and expanding business projects in 2010, according to the March edition of SITE Selection magazine.
Danville Micro, in the central part of the state, also ranked as the top such community in Kentucky for the second consecutive year, according to a news release.
SITE Selection, a trade journal for site-selection consultants, corporate decision-makers and economic developers, recognized Danville Micro for six new or expanding facilities. Boyle County had two new plus two expanding businesses with a total of 178 new jobs and more than $10.3 million in capital investment. Lincoln County had two expanding businesses with a total of 375 jobs and $9.25 million in capital investment. The magazine claims a readership of more than 44,000 executives involved in site-selection decisions.
A Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of one or more counties, including the county containing an urban core city with a population between 10,000 and 50,000, as well as any adjacent counties that have a high degree of social and economic integration with the urban core city. As of 2009, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated the Danville Micro population at 54,435.
Other Kentucky micropolitans earning a spot on the list were Campbellsville, Frankfort, Glasgow, Murray, and Somerset (all tied for 41st place), followed by Paducah, Corbin, London, Mayfield and Richmond/Berea (all tied for 74th place).
